CRITICAL THINKING

As part of its mission to promote, produce, disseminate, and foster hybrid arts and digital cultures, S-LAB also places strong emphasis on critical thinking. The association is committed to addressing the social, cultural, and existential questions that arise from—and are shaped by—hybrid creation and digital practices. These issues have a direct impact on the way we live, create, and understand the world around us. To this end, S-LAB organizes a variety of events that open spaces for reflection, raise awareness, and generate dialogue. Among the most prominent are the Anti-Colloquium, held annually during Festival ZERØ1, which aims to create a space of exchange between artistic creation and academic research around a specific theme—“slowing down” in 2025. Another key moment is the International Week of Research-Creation, held each November, which brings together artists, researchers, students, cultural professionals, and the public to engage in hybrid forms of critical inquiry. S-LAB also supports students from the Master’s program in Audiovisual and Digital Project Direction (DPAN) at La Rochelle University in developing works that interrogate technology—an engagement that can extend all the way through doctoral-level research.
